The tags which will be used to track sunfish, are based on a SPOT Personal Tracker satellite location device, and will be used to send as many position updates as possible, every time the fish surfaces.
The data transmission is made using the Globalstar simplex service (one way communication from tag to satellite).

These tags are also equipped with a GPS sensor and a salt water sensitive switches that activates transmission only at surface. With 3 AA batteries, this device is expected to function for about 30 days in normal operation.

As with Xtreme 2, Noptilus 1 and X8, these tags were developed by LSTS.
